MAINTENANCE TIPS FOR TRAVERTINE
Travertine, limestone and marble have an
uncanny resemblance as far as physical and chemical composition is concerned.
Due to this very reason, we believe that the cleaning and care methods of all
of them are more or less same. However, if you want to increase the durability
of the travertine stone and maintain it properly for long, it is essential to
know the difference.
Travertine is highly sensitive to acidic
liquids such as juice or wine and also it is less dense than granite. Polished
travertine is quite stain-resistant. If tomato ketchup, spaghetti sauce or
effervescent beverages gets spilled on the tile accidently, it is advisable
that you wipe it off quickly using a stone cleaning product and hot water.
Vacuum cleaning of the stone flooring is
prohibited as it might produce cracks and chips on the tile. Using a broom,
dust mop your floor frequently, and once or twice a week you can use a wet mop
even. Prevention is the best remedy when it comes to handling travertine stone.
Hence, carpet runners and doormats should be kept at the entrance of a floor in
order to keep dirt away which could in turn spoil the interlocking tile mosaic.
Poultice can also be put to use in case the travertine is not responding to the
normal cleaning procedures.
